Fishing Report 06/12/2019
Sand Flathead still biting well… most areas when weather has permitted. Jetties down through the channel have produced fish. Bait and soft plastics again working this week.
Tiger Flathead … 50m plus again when the weather permits.
Australian Salmon are literally everywhere fish up to 2.5kg in the surf along Clifton Beach while the larger Huon and Derwent estuaries are holding fish of around 1kg and smaller. Alum Cliffs south of Taroona have produced good salmon to spin and troll anglers.
Calamari good sized fish continue to be caught all around the state with jetty and shore based angling featuring heavily this week due to gusty weather. Triabunna and Margate areas producing “mega cals”.
King Fish are rumoured to be around with bust offs already reported… this is usual for this time of the year as this specie begins to build in numbers …. Good fishing is expected by about the middle of January but it may also be worth an early try.
Rock Lobster season kicks off this weekend in ECSRZ including the rumoured to be shut south of Tasman Island to Southport. With a windy forecast please be safe and wear your PFD1 while in the boat – pay particular attention to the condition of your PFD this weekend and replace if necessary.
Freshwater has been tough this week with horrendous weather conditions thankfully the weather is looking good for the weekend and with all waters firing at the moment my tip would be to take this rare bit of good weather and get up there.
