Tasmanian Fishing Report 02/6/2022
It may be Winter but the tuna fishing has just got better. The larger model bluefin tuna have arrived in good numbers and all along the East coast.
Saltwater
Swordfish
Have been a little quiet this week the moon phase may not be helping the situation. Lots of anglers have been trying for them.
Flounder
With calm nights over the last week the flounder have been in plentiful numbers. The hot spots have been, Pitt Water, the mouth of Iron Creek and Speaks Bay.
Sand Whiting
Good numbers and size fish have been caught off Lower Sandy Bay and the channel. A fantastic table fish well worth targeting.
Bream
Good numbers of fish getting caught around Claremont and upstream in the Derwent. The bream have been aggressive even feeding on trolled lures. The Huon has also been fishing well on flats below Franklin.
Tuna
The Barrel Bluefin Tuna have appeared in good numbers from Mewstone to St Helens. One Angler Wes catching a 97kg tuna from a Jet Ski. Bluefin have also been caught in 17 meters of water off Coles Bay. The Mouth of Fortescue Bay, and the South side of Tasman Island have been very productive for school tuna.
Australian Salmon
There has still been the odd fish around most of the estuaries around Tasmania.
Striped Trumpeter
The Striped Trumpeter have been fishing well the last week with multiple groups of anglers getting their bag limits fairly easily. The inshore reefs have been very productive.
Calamari
The squid have been a little slow but the odd good-sized model caught along the East Coast and Channel
Sea Run Trout
A good number of smaller fish have been caught from the Tasman Bridge and upstream. Anglers covering the shallows and using both fly and Lure baitfish patterns have been doing fairly well.
Freshwater
Great Lake
Still continues to fish well for the anglers keen to brave the cold. Both Lure and Fly have been very productive in the wind-blown shallows.
