Tasmanian Fishing Report 07/07/2022

Releasing a perfect searunner in the Derwent this week. Caught on one of Rivulet Flies wooly buggers we stock.

Make the most of the good weather, the saltwater fishing has been fantastic. Good numbers of fish have been reported all down the East Coast.

Saltwater

Flounder

Anglers have found flounder in very shallow water, with most able to catch bag limits with ease. A few still nights on the way with it getting dark early makes them a fantastic target over the next week.

King George Whiting

For Northern anglers’ good numbers and size fish have been caught in the mouth of the Tamar River in around 5m of water and St Helens Bay. The Hayabusa rig is a go to for most anglers this time of year.

Bream

Both the Huon and Derwent have been fishing well the last few weeks. The Derwent from the Bowen Bridge up stream has been reliable.  Fly, Lure and Bait have been very productive.

Tuna

The Bluefin have been wide spread along the East coast the last few weeks. The Tuna have been feeding on large schools of Red Bait and Mackerel. The school fish (15 to 25kg) have been widely reported mouth of Fortescue Bay and Munroe Bight. The back side of Maria Island has also been productive. The lures that has been working well has been the Meridian Demon in Blue Pacific and we also have free stock of a limited run of Halco 190DD and XDD in Fusilier.

Australian Salmon

Salmon are still hanging around, most of the shores in the Derwent River have been productive.

Striped Trumpeter

The Striped Trumpeter have been fishing well the last week with multiple groups of anglers getting their bag limits fairly easily. Around the 100m depth has been the most productive. Inshore reefs have still been producing the odd fish.

Calamari

Squid have been going well in the Channel and the East Coast around Maria Island. Some large squid have been caught over the last few weeks.

Sea Run Trout

A few trout have been caught in both the Huon and Derwent River. Around Old Beach and above has been a fairly good spot to try. The size of the trout has been around the l too 2lb. Anglers have been catching on both lures and fly. The two new colours in the Hawk Sniper Lures range are perfect for the Sea Trout and Bream.

Matt Sherriff caught this cracking King George Whiting caught in the Tamar River.

Halco Fusilier Limited Run

Hawk Snipers

A chunky bream caught at the wrecks at Otago Bay

This hungry trout was caught at Store Point with a live mullet still in its gob!

About as perfect as sea-run brown trout get. This fish went 63cm and about 7lb was caught and released by Sam Shelley this week.
