Saltwater

Southern Bluefin Tuna are still biting well …. Limited anglers seem to be chasing these fish now. For those that are keen fish are still biting form the Friars to Bicheno. Patchy days do exist so check with the guys instore for current information before fishing.

Sand Flathead have been making an appearance of late. Best to try the usual areas for the moment. Reports do indicate a trip might be worthwhile as we come out of winter.

Australian Salmon have appeared at Cremorne and off South Arm and Rosny Point in the Derwent River. Fish size seems to be around 1kg.

Flounder have been speared on the calmer nights in the clearer non estuarine bays around the SE this week. Some good specimens among them. Not huge numbers but a trip would be worthwile.

Juvenile Blue Warehou (Snotty Trevally) are available around most southern coastal jetties and piers, small squid baits and a little bit of burley for best results.

Garfish have been taken throughout the channel and lower Derwent estuary area … bigger fish gracing anglers bags as is normally the case for late winter and early spring.

Freshwater

Penstock Lagoon is fishing well and providing anglers with good bags, with fish size being around 1.3kg. Boaters and shore based anglers are both doing well. Juvenile rainbows providing plenty of action.

Great Lake still fishing really well – all methods.

Lake Leake is fishing tremendously well with both good sized brown and rainbow trout taking lure and fly readily. Drift spinning and fly are effective but it is the trollers fish out wide that are doing the best. Fish up to 3kg have been taken.

Bronte Lagoon although fluctuating with water levels is producing nice fish. One fish we saw this week from this water must be nudging 10lb! And was caught on a small bibbed lure. Fly fishers have had a productive week as well stripping wets through the shallows and from a drifting boat.

Derwent and Huon Rivers a little quiet due to murky waters caused by recent rains and snow.
