Fishing Report 01/08/2019

Sea trout are now smashing lures and chasing small amounts of bait in the Derwent and Huon estuaries, Cradoc seems to be a hot spot for anglers in the Huon while Stores Point in the Derwent has seen its fair share of the action as well.

Bream also being taken on soft plastics and hard bodies by those chasing estuary trout … these fish have pushed back downstream lately by the flush of freshwater fish have been caught as far down as the Hobart CBD.

Southern Bluefin tuna are slow in the SE mainly due to bad weather and anglers not being able to get out see if there are any there.  Further up the east coast around Bicheno and St Helens … fish numbers have been better with numerous fish caught.

Sand Flathead Marion Bay has offered good fishing on the right days. Storm Bay has produced the odd flathead drifting wide of Cremorne and Betsy Island.

Calamari available in reasonable numbers throughout the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. All other areas have been a little quiet on these fish though … most probably due to the ground swell keeping fish offshore.

Garfish available at Lewisham and South Port …. Finding fish has been a little bit hard but a prolonged burley session has normally attracted fish.

Snotty Trevally responding to burley and a boiled mussel used as bait these fish have been a opportunistic when around. Reported this week at Triabunna, Nubeena and Hobart CBD.

Jack Gard sent us a picture of his chunky sea trout caught in the Derwent a few days back…….
