Fishing Report 09/08/2019

Saltwater

Southern Bluefin tuna are still around with confirmed captures in the SE at Eaglehawk Neck earlier in the week.

Calamari are still available in limited numbers mainly further up the east coast at Triabunna, Bicheno and Mercury Passage.

Sea run trout patchy in the Derwent but a few nice fish were caught to persistent fly and spin anglers. Stand out flies were the Risely Gamechangers and a mix of Jazz 70m harbody lures in RT and Natural trout in lure. Berkley Gulp minnows fished slow along the bottom working well up river. The Huon fished a little better than the Derwent this past weekend.

Trout Report

Lake trout were the standout this weekend after a rough start and breezy opening morning …

The Bradys chain of lakes produced solid fish to bait, lure and fly. Bronte fishing relatively well from the shore. Boat anglers using bright coloured cobras accounting for their fair share of the fish as well. Bait fishers did well into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Great Lake saw fish landed … these fish were a little slow as expected due to the colder water and a little under conditioned. Fishing conditions found to be average too.

Lake Leake was found to be low one angler reporting 1.6m total depth toward the middle with weed already nearing the surface.

Tooms no doubt had some starters but reports for the moment remain elusive.

Woods Lake reportedly saw 52 boats converge on this water … fishing was tough and the water level was found to be low as well. Some good fish were caught from both the boat and shore … the best we have heard of at the moment was 1.83kg on fly.
