Fishing Report 02/10/2020

Patchy weather hasn’t slowed the fishing at all with plenty of people getting some great catches……

Saltwater

Calamari – Calamari have been the hot topic again this week and have continued to run well with larger specimens up to 50cm hoods being caught in the channel area.  Squid have also been good up the east coast from Marion Bay to Coles bay. Remember the east coast Calamari closure runs from 15th October – 14th November and pretty much includes everything from the northern end of Marion Bay beach to Freycinet Peninsula …. Check the following link for exact locations …….

Sand Flathead – continue to get better with reports of good-sized fish being caught in most areas now.  Fresh bait added to an attractor rig has been the most productive method.

Tiger Flathead have the occasional early report still floating through. These will pick up in coming weeks.

Sand Whiting – reports of a few sand whiting being caught around the beach areas.  Small flasher rigs with tiny bits of squid the most favored method.

Silver Trevally - further north at st Helens reports have been coming in of large numbers of silver trevally in the bay. Gulp fry and Powerbait Nemesis have been catching well.

Freshwater

The highlands have really continued to fire, with the talk at the moment of the 2020 season so far, being the best in 20 years ….

Good numbers of fish coming from Arthurs Lake and Great Lake, lightly weighted “Bait Junkie” soft plastics spun around the shore have been producing good bags.

Lake Echo is also producing good bags of fish for those who like to troll, deeper running lures and lead line have proved most effective such as the Rapala SD in 7cm floating.

If your wanting to try some where different Laughing Jack Lagoon has also had some good fish coming out it.

Fly anglers still continue to do well in Penstock Lagoon and Little Pine …. wets still the producing most of the fish although trout have been taking dries. These two waters seem to have tapered off a little in recent days.
