Fishing Report

Tailor some rather large specimens for this specie have been caught in the River Derwent of late … similar to last week, fish nudging 2kg have been landed.

Sea Trout still plentiful in the Derwent and Huon Rivers. The Bowen Bridge and Lindisfarne rather productive in the last week.

Australian Salmon have made a return to the SE, these fish have been unusually patchy this year, but good numbers are available now from Lewisham to the mouth of the Huon. Larger fish are being taken off the front of South Arm.

Southern Bluefin Tuna have been fickle this week, huge tides maybe contributing to this. Storm Bay has been a little quiet over the last 7 days with only a few fish caught last weekend. Tuna in Peninsula waters have been a bit more consistent and are averaging 15-20kg.

Sand Flathead featured last weekend with anglers finding good beds of fish … water temperature is up for this time of the year so perhaps we may have fishing continue into early winter.

COVID-19 and Fishing Update

Sea Fishing

  • No change from last week

  • Maximum group size of 10

  • Social distancing

Freshwater Fishing

  • Waters Access through or use the of National Parks and Reserves, Hydro Tasmania Lakes, and Permanent Timber Tasmania – only within 30km of home.

  • Tasmanian Irrigation managed waters remain open for day use by those that live close by.

  • Hydro Tasmania have lifted restrictions on lakes and boat ramps for day use only … to those anglers that reside in the municipality in which the lake is located.

Boating

We had a major push from the Opposition on Wednesday, addressing the concerns of recreational boaters and the possibility of lifting current restrictions that call for boaters to only launch their boat from ramps within their municipality…. This was unsuccessful with the Premier indication current arrangements would remain for the moment.
