This week has been tough due to the volume of rain that fell over the State in recent days virtually shutting down the remaining freshwater lakes and larger estuary systems.

The salt water front has faired a little better with good catches of sand flathead, Australian salmon, perch, snapper and snotty trevally being caught last weekend before the onset of the rain.

In recent days post rain:

SBT
are still biting well in Peninsula waters and further south at Pedra Branca and north at Maria Island and Bicheno. Fish are available to 120kg with two being caught over the weekend at Maria Island. Average size is around 15kg.

Albacore
made an appearance east of Freycinet last week toward the shelf with fish in this school being up around 4-6kg. Water temperatures are up a tad for this time of the year and as they say “ there are no fences in the ocean “ so any specie can turn up at any time if conditions are right.

Striped trumpeter
are biting well in the SE …. some areas were quite reliable while others a fraction quiet. South Bruny in the region of The Friars produced fish up to 4kg.
