Fishing Report 29/11/2019
Saltwater
Sand Flathead going well in most areas ….. soft plastics seemed to work well last weekend in particular the Berkley Nemesis in the 4 Inch size in Fire Tiger and Bleak.
Tiger Flathead are patchy but available if you are prepared to move to find them if need be generally 70m plus of water. Catches have occurred at Bicheno, Maria Island Marion Bay, Port Arthur and wider Storm Bay off Cape Queen Elizabeth.
Australian Salmon are still going well in most areas – spinning and trolling a silver chrome lure doing well. Surf fisherman have encountered good fish along the SE beaches such as Clifton. A few have started using poppers for a bit of fun.
Tailor have dropped off a little this week probably due to the fact bream and sea trout anglers have struggled to get out.
Calamari still very prevalent in the SE although wild southerly swell has made them seek shelter in recent days. Allow the weather to settle before expecting good results.
Perch have been encountered by those chasing Striped Trumpeter and Tiger Flathead.
Striped Trumpeter almost non existent this week due to weather those that went generally sought shelter closer to shore to obtain a good drift.
Gummy and School Shark appeared to bite well off the Peninsula and Bruny Island this week.
Freshwater
Great Lake continues to fish well with fish up around 1.5kg being landed this week. Spinning the shore seemed to be preferred over boating in the wind weather. Strike Pro Flatz Minnows in colours A142-264, 539T, 887G being ideal size, weight and action for the shore fisher.
Arthurs Lake has shown a fair bit of promise lately with some great bags being caught. The IFS mentioned while attending the Great Lake Tie In last weekend that the Jonah Bay boat ramp carpark was actually full – a sure sign fish are on the move.
Staff members Andrew and Alex fished it last Sunday with Alex catching four fish on the fly in short time.
