Southern Tas Fishing Report - 24 July 2020

Calmer conditions towards the end of last week saw the huge easterly groundswell easing allowing anglers to get out around the eastern and southern coastlines….

Saltwater

Southern Bluefin
Were a little patchy but seem to have bounced back and biting well in recent days.

Sand flathead
Have been available to the persistent angler trolling and soft plastics seeming to be the best techniques.

Sand Whiting
Are available on coastal sand flats throughout the SE, Lewisham in particular and wider Storm Bay.

Calamari
Have been taking jigs well from Adventure Bay through to Maria Island …. fish had moved out deep during the big easterly swell.

Estuary

Bream
Are hitting soft plastics and hardbody lures in both the Huon and Derwent estuaries … anglers are excited at further prospects as baitfish are in abundance.

Seatrout
Fishing well both during the day and night. Spun hardbody lures cat around the tidal shallows taking fish this week around Cadbury Pnt. Dead pretty fish spun slowly at night with a soft drag, and a simple size 10 single hook placed up through the chin of the minnow working well too.

Freshwater

Great Lake
Continues to produce quality fish in the 1.1 – 1.3kg range. Levels have come up higher than for the same time last year. Spin, fly and troll all taking fish.

Resident Bothwell game fishing expert, Duncan Campbell, with a solid school bluefin caught today.
