Thanks to everyone that bought a Tassie Devil MOJO21 this year. We had a record year, donating $14277, making it a total of $47k donated over the last 4 years. Thanks to Justin and the team at Wigstons for all their support with this project.

Fishing Report

Bouts of good weather have seen anglers hitting the water over the last 10 days…..

Saltwater

Southern Bluefin Tuna seem to have gone quiet for the moment. This may be because water temperatures are rising. A recent influx of cooler water because of a retreating EAC may see these fish return in differing localities.

Striped Trumpeter continue to fish well in most areas. Pedra Blanca seeing quality fish. The Peninsula has been a bit touch and go and depends a bit on the day. Further up the east coast around Maria can be patchy at times but the fish are of high quality.

Calamari still haven’t quite ramped up to where they would normally be at this stage of the year and are proving patchy. Best tip is to try a few known areas or jetties with hopefully one of these firing and producing a few fish.

Australian Salmon are fishing well at Carlton River, Cremorne, South Arm and Derwent and Huon Estuaries. The east coast surf beaches are producing some tremendous black back to 3kg. Carlton River are seeing schools with fish to 2kg and the usual .3kg to 1.2kg fish mixed in.

Sand Flathead are continuing to bite around our coastlines. Jetties in the south producing sized fish of late. Meanwhile those drift fishing, trolling and spinning from the boat with lures are taking their fair share of fish.

Tiger Flathead are taking baits and lures in 60m plus of water – these fish were a little late turning up for the year but are now biting well of Marion Bay, Maria, Adventure and Storm Bays. Bicheno is also fishing well for these fish.

Morwong and Perch are available offshore over broken bottom off White beach, Port Arthur, Tasman Island, Lanterns and Fortescue bay

Sand Whiting are now available throughout the Lewisham, South Arm and Triabunna areas.

Mako Shark are now being caught out wide and have been on the right days since late November. Reports have smaller specimens in closer. Size seems to be ranging from 80 through to 120kg being the most common with a few larger models starting to come through.

Estuary

Fresh waters have now cleared allowing the Derwent and Huon Rivers to fish well.

Bream are now biting from Dowsing’s Point to Granton with bait, lure and fly anglers reporting good captures.

Seatrout have gone quiet; this was expected some time ago but good whitebait runs had these fish biting well into December this year.

Freshwater

Trout begin to turn their attention toward the surface as the weather warms and settles for the year.

Tooms Lake sees large brown trout smashing galaxia against the shorelines, these fish are highly active and making the most of clearing water. This lake is still spilling.

Lake Leake has been tough and a little slow – this is not unusual for December as this water warms a little.

Penstock Lagoon sees trout taking a variety of spinners. Trout are still active on Duns but fishing has been a little tough and highly dependent on the right conditions.

Lake Echo is producing fish to those drift spinning its shorelines. Water is high and both rainbow and brown trout cruise the edges looking for food.

Arthurs Lake continues to improve with some notable catches in recent days. Fish seem to hitting the fly and also trolled and spun lures.

Great Lake has dropped off the pulse a little bit of late and although full the newly flooded edges have been tough going.

Calm weather has enabled anglers to access offshore area for a variety of species.

A good haul of Australian Salmon from Cremorne recently.

Trout anglers enjoying a calm day trolling Lake Echo recently.

Cooper & Finlay with a cracker Brown.

A nice upper Derwent fish caught by Jimmy Johnston on the MOJO21.

Queensland angler Mark with a very solid Arthurs fish. The class of fish there has been great this year.

Merry Christmas Everyone from The Team at Spot On Hobart. Please have a very safe time and Happy New Year but above all else Tight Lines too.
