Tasmanian Fishing Report 14 / 08 / 2020

Reports are a little light on the ground this week as Tasmania last weekend lay waste to an Antarctic winter blast that saw our eastern half and central island areas, silently defrosting having been plastered with snow and ice only days earlier.

Saltwater

SBT – still biting well and plentiful throughout the SE and as far up as Freycinet and Bicheno.

Sand Flathead have been taken off the Tasman Peninsula by fishers targeting Striped trumpeter… size has been up to 600mm. Not big catches but a feed of flathead midwinter nonetheless.

Striped Trumpeter have been biting well in most regions … pretty much from the Friars to Freycinet.

Freshwater

Arthurs Lake still patchy but producing fish to wet fly anglers mainly. Trolling and spinning remain hard. Occasional fish as with the fly have been taken by bait fishers using scrub worms and wattle grubs.

Great Lake is fishing well to all methods. Casting a soft plastic form the shore seems to be the most effective method with bait fishing a close second.

Lake Leake is by far the most productive water in the state presently. All facets of – lure and fly working well with fish in great condition some approaching 2.3kg having been taken.

Bronte Lagoon in recent days has gone a little quiet, most probably the negative temperatures of last week and clear frosty nights not helping with temperatures in the shallows. Rumour is this water has dropped in water level since Tuesday another factor possibly affecting fish.

Lake Sorell – very quiet and a little murky as expected.

Lake Crescent has a few reports filtering through. Most of the action seems to be in and around the canal with soft plastics taking most of the fish.
