Tasmanian Fishing Report 19/10/22

Sunset over the highlands. There is some good margin fishing to be had throughout the highlands at the moment.

Spring Fishing In Full Swing

With high water levels the fishing has been amazing in the flooded margins. The saltwater has been great too, with some jumbos still hanging about.

Freshwater

Lake Crescent
The Lake has still been producing good fish depending on the day. Most of the fish have been caught hard on the edges chasing Golden Galaxias.

Bronte Lagoon
With High water levels the lake has been fairly reliable option for early and late tailing trout. For the anglers that are putting in the time it has been producing some very nice fish. Trolling and drift spinning has been the popular choice. The Fly fisher’s early morning have been doing very well along the Long Shore.

Arthurs Lake
With water levels rising the fish are up in the shallows feeding. The Cow Paddock and Seven Pound Bay have been fishing very well, few reports of stonefly hatches and fish rising.

Little Pine Lagoon
The water levels have risen quickly flooding fresh ground and the trout are up in the shallows making the most of the food. Trout have been caught on Both dry and wet fly. Fish seem to be on a different shore each day.

Four Springs
The Fly fishing at the lake has been fantastic with large hatches of duns, some anglers reporting fish rising for most of the day.

Salt Water

Australian Salmon
The river seems to be holding large numbers of small Aussie salmon at the moment with the odd larger one mixed in.

Bream
The Bream have been well spread in both the Derwent and Huon, this time of year you start to see the fish schooling and heading up river to spawn. Browns River has also been holding large numbers of fish, a good option close to home with this weekend’s weather looking miserable.

Flathead
A few Flathead have been caught around Norfolk Bay and Marion Bay. The next few weeks should see catch rates improve.

Tuna
Bluefin Tuna are still hanging around the Hippolyte Rocks and Tasman Island. The odd school fish seem to be mixed in with 90kg models. The Halco XDD laser pros have been the lure of choice.

Calamari
Reasonable numbers of calamari are being caught throughout the Channel area.

Remember to please send in photos of your catches so we can feature your catch.
