Tasmanian Fishing Report 22/07/2021

Bream – are starting to school up in large numbers and are becoming a bit patchy, if you can locate a school the fish are being very aggressive.

Snottys – a few people have reported catching Snottys in the lower Derwent and around Betsy Island

Bluefin Tuna – school fish continue to be caught around the state with the odd big fish being encountered.  A 142kg fish was caught by Stu Nichols at Hippolyte yesterday.

Striped Trumpeter – are going well around the state with anglers reporting some of the best quality fish they have seen in years.

Searun Trout – continue to go well throughout the Derwent and Huon estuary system.  Fish have been feeding in the shallows on high tide and Daiwa Bait Junkie plastics have been working really well.

Calamari – are firing around the east coast with large models continuing to be caught. Bigger jigs seem to be key to success with most people opting for 3.5 jigs.

Flathead – a good run of flathead around sloping and Clifton with people getting reasonable numbers of fish up to 45cm.

Another bream from the same session. This one went a shade under 40cm.
