Fishing Report 12/7/2019

Bream - Bream continue to be productive in most east coast estuary’s with the bigger fish being found in the upper reaches of the systems. The Derwent is still producing good bags with fish being found in the warmer shallower water in the backs of bays.

Squid - A good number of BIG calamari continue to be caught in deeper water - big squid jigs (3.5+) and slow deep retrieves seem to be most productive method.

Flounder - Continuing calm nights have allowed a few people brave enough to head out in the cold to chase after these amazing table fish with reports of most people doing very well. Flounder are around on most sandy flats at this time of year.

Garfish - Reports of big winter garfish have been flowing in lately, try fishing around shallow weedy bays with a dough made from bread and fish oil on a small hook proving the best bait, also make sure to take plenty of powder Berley.

Tuna - The calm weather has made Tuna fishing a bit tough but reports of good fish are still coming in from Tasman and Schouten Island.

Flathead - Flathead have been a bit quite of late but good oily bait like salted blue bait has been helping get modest bags. Trolling for Flathead in shallower water with deep diving lures like RMGs has also resulted in some bigger than average fish being caught.

Striped Trumpeter - The recent calm weather has made targeting this fish a breeze with good bags being caught and some great bi catch like perch and the odd snapper.

BIG winter Calamari are great fun
