Fishing Report 18/07/2019
Confirmed Reports
Southern Bluefin tuna still being caught in the SE by charter fisherman who can get out in the more rugged weather - size seems to be still around the 15-25 kg mark.
Bream in recent days seem to have pushed back down river according to fisho’s who got out after the bad weather. This would be because of the influx in fresh water.
Sea trout - the Huon has been quiet but again anglers closer to the Hobart CBD have had worthwhile success for their efforts in the tidal lower reaches of the Derwent. Further up dead baits have worked fished on the bottom with trout keen to forage.
Calamari - have been available to keen anglers shore based from sheltered coastal jetties in the SE.
Australian Salmon confirmed at Cremorne just before the onset of bad weather - fish up to 2kg were available.
Rainbow trout are being caught at Craigebourne Dam north of Campania - this water would be about the only fished water in recent days in southern Tasmania - ideal because of its low altitude and relative sheltered nature compared to exposed highland areas.
Not Confirmed …. but should be there when the weather clears ……
Flounder are still there ……but …. unfortunately the still nights are not ….again wind has prevented anglers from chasing these fish.
Flathead ……. again similar to flounder ….strong winds and average drift speed of 15-20 kts has not been conducive to keeping baits down long.
Snotty Trevally have been caught throughout the Derwent and Huon estuaries and should be plentiful throughout the channel as well - size up to 240mm with larger specimens mixed in.
Brown Trout available when places such as Great Lake unfreeze ( see Spot On Report 27 June 2019 ) except add white over 98% of the landscape up there. In all seriousness reports from the Miena Hotel details keen anglers on Saturday having caught 4 trout something we could not do 3 weeks ago !
