Fishing Report 20/03/2020

Saltwater

Southern Bluefin Tuna
…… are biting well in Peninsula waters rougher SW days seeming to be the best.

Albacore
a little like the SBT are seeming to bite a little better on the scuddy days. East of the Hippolyte Rocks the best area in about 90m of water.

Striped Trumpeter
have been taken when conditions suit drifting. Southern Bruny around the Friars producing fish in recent weeks.

Sand Flathead
are biting well but may need to be searched for. Try your usual spots but be prepared to cover a bit of ground to find the fish.

Tiger Flathead
occasional fish still being caught. Fish have been taken by those drifting for Mako sharks.

Rock Lobster
have a month to go …. fish are still potting well in the SE but have dropped off a little.

Barracouta
have shown up in anglers bags of late, undoubtedly because of the unusually cool water. Some medium sized fish have been taken.

Mako shark
good fish are still being raised although the action of past months has dropped off a tad. Weather seems to be the limiting factor for the moment.

Freshwater

Great Lake
is producing fat healthy fish to 2kg the average being closer to 1kg but these fish both rainbows and browns are in top condition. A walk along the shore with a Devil Spoon or wet or dry fly will produce fish.

Lake Echo
we had a report of a 3kg rainbow being caught recently – a great fish in anybodys book! Trout in general are biting well with trollers taking their fair share.

Bronte Lagoon
is fishing well to both lure and fly. Drifting from a boat seeming to take the best fish for the moment. The SW to SE has meant anglers can drift the longer shores.

Lake Burbury
is fishing well in the wind lanes. Fly troll and spin working well ….

COVID-19

At Spot On Hobart we place the safety of our customers, first and foremost and have embraced measures to play our part in the overall controlling of COVID-19 and preventing unnecessary spread of this pandemic.

At  Spot On The Fishing Connection and under good advice, we are as a minimum spray sanitising popular contact surfaces around the store including the counter tops, door handles both inside and out, computers …keyboards… and mice, Eftpos terminals, phones and similar areas, back of store at least,   3–5  times daily or as required. And picking many other areas for a random rolling spray.

All staff have been briefed in the importance of increased handwashing and have the means available to lessen the likelihood of a transmission throughout the store.

Having said this we are entering unchartered waters and will be following recommendations as they become available – for the moment its business as usual and please be assured we are here to safely serve you.

Postal services are available for anybody that is sitting tight or perhaps in self isolation

Call us on 03 6234 4880 if you want us to place a phone order.

Regards,

The Team – Spot On – The Fishing Connection Hobart.
