Fishing Report 30/5/2019

Flathead
Small numbers were taken over the weekend in greater Storm Bay - Mercury Passage has produced good fish when the weather has abated.

Gummy shark
Biting in many areas fish up to 5 - 10 kg again mainly through the Storm Bay area - anglers should be mindful of the shark reserve running inshore.

Snapper
Being caught around Betsy Island.

Slender Tuna
Are the talk of the town this week with a 12 kg specimen caught earlier this week. Slender tuna are very much a winter Tuna but can be elusive from year to year. Thanks to Southern Game Fish Club for their report with Team Kermit having caught the fish.

Australian Salmon
Are around in large numbers some bigger fish up to 3 kg have been taken on surf beaches in the Bruny Island and Pirates Bay areas. Smaller “cockies” to 1 kg have been taken by troll and spin fishers in inshore coastal bays and inlets.

Kingfish
No reports for weeks now just in case anyone was wondering.

Sea run trout
Up to 2.5 kg moving in both the Derwent and Huon estuaries - they are munching hard on white bait. Try a Risely Flies - grey leach pattern - these have been working well.

Bream
Have slowed a little but good numbers are still being found in the upper regions of the Derwent River.

Brown Trout

on the chew at Great Lake, Lake King William - best lures Tillins Ashley 2 Inch spinner in colour Phantom, 14 D, Spotted Dog and No 40 - remember to use an anti kink to avoid line twist.
