Fishing Report 6/6/2019
The long weekend is upon us and the weather is looking mint to get out for a fish.
Bream
Bream continue to be a great winter target with a lot of fish being caught in tributaries like browns river, Jordan river and coal river - be sure to check your seaward limits when visiting these places as certain areas are closed as part of the trout season closure.
Sea-run Trout
sea runners continue to impress with good numbers of fish being caught from Lindisfarne to New Norfolk, most fish seem to be in the .5 - 1.5 kg bracket with the odd 2-3 kg fish been caught as well.
Tuna (blue-fin and albacore)
This week has been a big week on the blue-fin with a lot of boats reporting good catch rates of blue-fin ranging from 10-30 kg, there is also the odd good sized albacore being caught amongst them. Hot spots include Tasman island, Hippolyte Rock, Schouten Island, St helens, Bicheno, and Pedra.
Squid
calamari continue to be impressive all over the east coast with fish up to 50 cm hood length being caught. Make sure to look for clearer water and dont be afraid to try fishing a bit deeper.
Flathead
are a bit slow this time of year but people who are happy to put in a bit of time are getting good bags of reasonable size fish. Good smelly bait like salted blue bait is ideal to entice the less active winter fish.
Tailor
are still on the scene with a nice specimen having been caught in the Derwent River in recent days.
Flounder
Last Saturday night saw some nice flounder speared in the SE owing to the abating windy weather.
Trout
Lake King William is fishing well and producing brown trout to .5 kg. This water is open to all with a current inland fishing licence. Try a Tasmanian Devil - 133 - Lime Frog - spun or trolled.
