School sized fish has increased somewhat now average 15-20kg with the odd 25kg fish as well.

Yellowfin Tuna are talk of the shop at the moment with some really nice fish coming boat side in the last 5 days. Up until now a splattering of these fish had been caught in the EHN region over the last few weeks. In recent days half a dozen fish that we know of have been taken around Tasman Island and Hippolyte’s and Lanterns area. Size seems to in the area of 60 – 80kg.

Arrow Squid are available out wide in 40m plus of water.

Bream are still available in the lower Derwent.

Searun trout are now starting to move upriver to spawn, they will make the most of the autumn bait that remains feeding heavily as the go making them an end of season proposition for anglers.

Freshwater

Penstock Lagoon has gone quiet.

Woods Lake has been producing well conditioned browns up to 2kg with trolling anglers doing the best. Drift spinning the shore has also been rewarding.

Great Lake hasn’t stopped fishing well this week with good sized browns and rainbows being caught from both the shore and boat. Fly anglers have caught fish walking the shore with woolley bugger and shrek patterns or small dry flies.

Bronte Lagoon has fished well all season and it looks as though at the moment it will finish the season the same way in a few weeks. Trout are in great condition and taking lures and flies well.

There have been no reports from Arthurs Lake this week.

Tooms Lake has evaded the limelight so far this season but word has it that it is fishing relatively well at the moment with both good sized brown and rainbows starting to fall to trolled lures and the wet fly.
