Fishing Report 24/4/19

With perfect weather for most of the Easter long weekend a lot of people managed to get out on the water with strong reports coming in on a lot of different fisheries firing.

Bream
Have been going strong throughout the Derwent river system with lots of people starting to target these successfully on fly. If fly isn’t your thing small metallic hard bodied lures like ecogear, lucky craft and atomic have been working well as well as grub style soft plastics like squidgy bugs and YUM walleye grubs.

Kingfish
There are still a few schools of kings getting around the Derwent, our most popular lure choices are sluggos and halco poppers with a few people starting to have success on sinking stick baits. Try targeting points and drop offs with a bit of current.

Snapper
There has been a recent boom in people starting to catch smaller sized snapper throughout storm bay. Burley and bait have been the most successful with a few doing really well on Gulp Prawns.

Swordfish
The swordfish have had a slow start this year but have been going well the last week with nice weather allowing people to get to the shelf. There has been quite a few people reporting hook ups and few starting to get landed.

Bluefin Tuna
The bluefin tuna have shown up at eagle hawk neck with good numbers of schoolies in the 20kg-40kg size bracket been caught. We are also getting reports of fish being caught around the bottom end of Bruny, Pedra and Maatsuyker Island.

Squid
Good numbers of calamari are been caught along the east coast although most seem to be in the smaller size bracket.

Freshwater
The season closes for most waters this Sunday (28/4/2019) so now is the time to go.  Most of the bigger waters like Great Lake, Woods, Echo, Dee, Pedder etc have been fishing very well with people reporting good numbers of fish.
